No Claim Discount

70% No Claim Discount for 5 or more claim-free years

If you buy your car insurance with us, there’s a range of discounts you can get on a basic premium. 

We’ll need to see evidence of your No Claim Discount in writing. We can accept a renewal invitation, a letter or an email as proof, as long as it’s from your previous UK, Channel Island or Isle of Man insurer.

For policies with 70% entitlement, the discount will increase at subsequent renewal dates to 72%, 73%, 74% and 75% for each claim free year if no claims have been made. If you make a claim on your policy, your No Claim Discount may reduce, unless you have protected your No Claim Discount.

Your No Claim Discount entitlement is not affected by claims for:

  • damage to the windscreen, windows or glass sunroof only
  • loss or damage to a courtesy car (provided by Albany Assistance Ltd) provided under the optional extra Enhanced Courtesy Car cover
  • loss or damage to a courtesy car provided by an approved repairer while your car is being repaired
  • assistance with uninsured losses under the optional Motor Legal Expenses Insurance (in association with Co-op Legal Services Limited)
  • assistance under the optional extra Car Breakdown Cover (in association with AXA Assistance (UK) Ltd.).

Protect your No Claim Discount

If you have earned five years’ discount or more, and you've not made more than one claim in the last three years, you might qualify for our Protected No Claim Discount option.

With this option, in return for an extra premium you can protect the number of claim-free years you've earned and the associated discount (not the amount of the premium) when you renew.

Your protection will remain in place provided you have made no more than two claims in the previous three years, including claims with a previous insurer. Three claims will result in your protection being withdrawn at renewal and four or more will mean that your number of claim-free years, and the associated discount, will reduce following our normal step-back rules.

Please also note that if any claim is made during the current period of insurance, the number of years' discount will not increase at the next renewal.

Your overall premium may increase or decrease next year whether or not you’ve made a claim and you have selected Protected No Claim Discount. For example, Insurance Premium Tax changes and general pricing changes might affect the amount of your premium from year to year.

Please note that the No Claim Discount earned can only be used on one policy at a time, it cannot be shared across two policies.

If the policy is cancelled before the end of the policy year, no discount will be earned for that year.

Co‑op Car Insurance is normally available to customers aged 17 to 75 years only.

Calls may be monitored or recorded for security and training purposes. First notification of a claim outside of normal working hours will be answered in Eire.

Applicants for insurance are subject to normal underwriting criteria.
