We think that safer, older motorists deserve extensive cover and lower premiums…
By the time you're in your fifties, you've had plenty of time to prove how good a driver you are. You’re either a safe bet on the road or you're not – and you’ve got a claims record that shows it.
We value older drivers because they’re usually safe and experienced. You know the roads, you know how to handle a crisis and you know you’ve got nothing to prove. Our Car Insurance policies are straightforward and comprehensive. Read on to find out more.
We like individuals
We know that the over-fifties are a diverse bunch.
Whether you’re still bringing up a family or caring for grandchildren, working or retired. Taking advantage of your free bus pass and driving less often, or touring the UK in your sports car. Whatever you’re doing, we’ll aim to find the right cover for you.
We reward experience
If you're a safe and respectful driver, you shouldn't have to pay higher premiums because of other motorists. That's why we offer a 70% discount for drivers with at least five years of No Claim Discount.
All other people aged 19 and over on your policy can earn their own No Claim Discount too. They can’t transfer it to other insurers, but they will be able to get a cheaper premium from us if they take out a policy in their own name in the future
Eight days of full policy cover in the European Union (EU), at no extra cost
Which might make that driving tour of France just a little bit more appealing.
24-hour accident recovery
So if your car isn’t safe to drive following an insured accident, we’ll come and get it, day or night.
Replacing stolen keys
If your car keys are stolen, then we’ll pay for the keys and locks to be replaced as long as you haven't left them in or on your car (up to a cost of £750). And we'll arrange it all too, to save you a bit of time.
Handy extras to add to your policy
So that you can make sure you’ve got the right cover for your car and never find yourself without the right insurance.
Taking your car abroad
If you take your car to Europe for more than eight days a year, then you might want to add our Extended Foreign Use option to your policy.
It's £30* a year extra, and it means you have the same level of cover in the EU that you get in the UK, all year round (as long as each trip is 90 days or fewer).
Getting a courtesy car
One of our most popular add-ons is Enhanced Courtesy Car cover, which costs £18.50 a year*, so if your car’s stolen, or if it’s a write-off, you can have a saloon or hatchback similar to your own (up to a maximum of 1.8ltrs for up to 14 days).
Covering legal expenses
Having our Motor Legal Expenses Insurance costs £25 a year* and gives you up to £100,000 of legal fees cover, so you could claim back any money you lost on missed appointments or days off work. It also includes a legal advice service.
Our Car Breakdown Cover is £51* in your first year and normally £62* a year after that.
It’s worth checking if you already have breakdown cover as part of another package – your bank account, for example. We don't want you to pay for something you don't need.
*Please bear in mind the cost for any of these services may vary when you come to renew your insurance.
Keeping your premiums down
As you reach an age where you have more freedom and fewer responsibilities, no doubt you’ve got something better to spend your money on than car insurance premiums.
We want to help you keep your insurance costs down, which is why we offer such a substantial No Claim Discount, but there are other things that you can do to lower your premiums, like:
- not driving as many miles
- using your garage or driveway to store your car overnight, if you have one.
The type of car you have will also have a big impact on the premium we offer, so if you're planning on splashing out on a sports car as a retirement present to yourself, it might be worth getting a quote for the insurance before you buy it.
Some people reduce their premiums by raising their excess or not buying add-ons, but this can be a risky approach. Make sure the overall excess is an amount you can actually afford, and don't leave yourself underinsured by cutting back on services that you really need.
