Insurance reminders when moving home

If you’re moving house you’ll be excited to start making it feel like home. You will probably have arranged for removal vans and ensured utilities are in place, but here at Co-op Insurance we know it can also be a stressful and difficult time and there will be things that may be forgotten. That’s why we’ve put together a short checklist for our members to make sure your home and belongings are protected during and after your move.

Informing your insurance provider of the moving date

Check your home insurance policy to make sure you have cover from the day you move in to your new home.

Review your home insurance

Now might be a good time to review your home insurance needs. If you are moving to a smaller or larger house, you may need to review the value of your contents and buildings cover to ensure you’re not under or over protected.

Possessions in transit

  • ensure your possessions are insured for transit. Most removal companies provide this but check what it covers and whether there are exclusions. For example, anything you pack yourself may not be covered by the removal firm's insurance
  • if you are planning to transport any precious items yourself, check that these are covered when in transit by your contents insurance.

Don’t forget to update your car insurance details with your new address.
