Co-op Home Insurance comes with lots of great features, and we’ve some useful optional extras too that you can add to create an insurance policy that’s right for you.

Our home insurance is available in three levels of cover:

  • just buildings insurance
  • just contents insurance
  • combined buildings and contents insurance.

You can choose which level of cover you need when you get a quote online.

Buildings insurance

We can give a quote for houses built since 1850 in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. We also include your outbuildings:

  • sheds
  • garages
  • greenhouses.

Our insurance includes cover against loss or damage from:

  • fire
  • theft
  • storm
  • flooding
  • subsidence
  • escape of water
  • accidental breakage of glass in doors, windows, greenhouses, sanitary fittings and solar panels.    

What we’ll pay out for accepted claims:

  • up to £2m legal costs for property owner’s liability
  • up to £500,000 rebuilding costs as standard
  • up to £50,000 alternative accommodation.

What we don't cover:

  • wear and tear
  • vandalism, escape of water, or theft if your home is left empty for more than 60 days.

Legal expenses cover

Our buildings insurance includes legal expenses cover, that covers:

  • up to £50,000 for legal costs such as personal injury and contract disputes.

Co-op Legal Services manage all legal expense claims. They will only accept a claim if there is a reasonable chance of making a recovery.

We will not cover any legal costs unless we have agreed to these in advance.

Claims for civil disputes about nuisance or trespass have an excess to pay of £250.

Buildings optional extras

For small domestic problems, we offer home emergency cover and we'll pay up to £250 (including VAT), and no excess applies.

If you want to increase your level of cover against accidental damage, we can do that too.

Contents insurance

We cover the contents of homes in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, including rented accommodation.

Our insurance also includes loss of or damage to your contents in your outbuildings:

  • sheds
  • garages

Our insurance includes cover against loss or damage from:

  • fire
  • theft
  • storm
  • flooding
  • subsidence
  • escape of water.

What we’ll pay out for on accepted claims:

  • up to £2m plus legal costs personal and occupiers’ liability as standard
  • new for old replacement of items (except household linen and clothing)
  • up to £80,000 cover for your contents, depending on the amount for which your contents are insured
  • up to £2,000 theft from outbuildings
  • up to 20% of the amount for which your contents are insured, for alternative accommodation.

We do not cover damage caused by:

  • wear and tear
  • anyone who is legally allowed to be in your home
  • vandalism, escape of water, or theft if your home is left empty for more than 60 days.

How to make a claim

Call us on 0345 999 8888^

If you prefer, you can start your claim online, and we’ll call you back to go through the details.

You’ll need to tell us:

  • the name and address of all policyholders
  • your policy number
  • what was lost or damaged
  • when and how the incident happened
  • whether anyone was hurt.

Home emergency (HomeRescue Plus) claims

Call 0345 607 6472^ if:

  • your boiler, hot water system, central heating or main heating source breaks down
  • the gas or electricity supply in your home breaks down
  • you’ve lost all of the keys you need to get into your home.
