5 fun ways to fundraise for your local sports team
Getting involved in a local sports team is a great way to get to know more people in your community. Yet, just like any community project, sports clubs and teams often need a little financial help from time to time. If you need to raise money to pay for kits, referees or court rental, we’ve pulled together 5 fun ideas to get your fundraising efforts off the mark.
1. Get sponsored for a fun run
A great activity for people of all ages, getting sponsored for a fun run is an easy way to raise money as a team. If you’re after more of a social experience, why not consider taking part in an event such as the 5K Color Run in London and get covered in powder paint as you go? Or you could sign up for one of the Dog Jog events throughout the UK with your pet pooch.
For those who fancy a bit more of a challenge, 10K runs like the Great Manchester Run or half marathons are ideal if you’re looking to get a bit competitive.
2. Host a quiz
If you’d rather exercise your brain than your legs, why not host a pub quiz with your team’s families and friends? A fun way to get everyone together, you could think about hosting your quiz at your local sports club, pub or town hall. Simply charge a small fee per person or team to enter and, if your venue permits, you could think about selling refreshments as well.
3. Sign up for a sponsored skydive
Bit of an adrenaline junkie? Then putting your limits to the test and signing up for a sponsored skydive could be for you. If your whole team are up for the challenge, this spine-tingling activity is a great day out for the thrill-seekers amongst you. Have a look online to find out which organisations facilitate skydives in your area.
4. Hold a car boot sale
Plenty of us have things lying around our homes that we no longer need. Get your team mates to ask their friends and families to donate any unwanted items and hold a car boot sale to sell them on. If you don’t fancy holding your own, you could also take the items to other local car boot sales in your area instead.
5. Set up tournament food stalls
If your sports club is hosting a tournament, why not take the opportunity to sell food and drinks to make some extra cash? Bacon butties, burgers and cake sales are all popular options at sports tournaments, with athletes and spectators alike enjoying the refreshments. Just remember to get the venue’s permission before you start selling.
No matter which idea you opt for, fundraising as a team can make the experience a lot more fun. Do you have any great fundraising tips for sports teams? Let us know what’s worked well for you on Facebook and Twitter.
