Our annual ‘Safe Used Car’ award is now in its third year and this year we’ve also looked into the safest used cars available in the UK for new parents.
Safe used car for new parents
Together with Thatcham Research we’ve selected the winner of the Safe Used Car for new parents based on the following criteria:
- 5 Star Euro NCAP rating
- High Euro NCAP child occupant scores – Including front and side protection
- How easy and safe it is to fit child restraints in the rear seats
- Second hand versions available for less than £15,000
We’ve named the Mazda CX-5 as our number one used car for new parents
The 5 star Euro NCAP rating is something to be proud of, but we also looked at the safety features for a Child Occupancy which the Mazda CX-5 scored points for having ISOFIX as standard in the back seats.
ISOFIX is built into the car and allows you to quickly and safety install a child safety seat.
Below is the Thatcham Research crash test footage for the Mazda CX-5.
The runners up
- Volkswagen Touran
- BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
- Nissian Qashqai
