Insurance reminders when moving home

If you’re moving house you’ll be excited to start making it feel like home. You'll probably have arranged for removal vans and made sure utilities are in place. We know it can also be a stressful and difficult time and there will be things that may be forgotten. That’s why we’ve put together a short checklist to make sure your home and belongings are protected during and after your move.

Informing your insurance provider of the moving date

Check your home insurance policy to make sure you have cover from the day you move in to your new home.

Review your home insurance

Now might be a good time to review your home insurance needs. If you are moving to a smaller or larger house, you may need to review the value of your contents and buildings cover to make sure you’re not under or over protected.

Possessions in transit

  • make sure your possessions are insured for transit. Most removal companies provide this but check what it covers and if there are exclusions. For example, anything you pack yourself may not be covered by the removal firm's insurance
  • if you're planning to transport any precious items yourself, check that these are covered when in transit by your contents insurance.

Don’t forget to update your car insurance details with your new address.
